Freehand Scraps Sneakies

I know that it's been awhile
since I last posted a page,
but there's a good reason for that.
As the March guest designer for Freehand Scraps,
I've been busy at work (and at play):

I am telling you --
this kit was a BLAST to create with.
The entire kit will be available on March 1.
You DON'T want to miss this one!

All Clear

It's crazy to think that just last weekend,
this was the view from the shore,
and today, this entire area was evacuated
due to a tsunami warning.

As I type this,
the tides are changing, and there are surges at times,
but really, that seems to be the worst of it.
We are definitely lucky.

I know that there are people who will be disappointed
that the "show" wasn't more impressive,
but those people are basically whacked.
I'm grateful for the thorough and meticulous work
of the scientists and the civil defense officials
who are ultimately concerned about our safety --
even the safety of those dingbats who wandered out
into the water to wait for something, anything to happen,
or the idiots who brought their children to the shore.

I don't find this experience disappointing,
but sobering,
another reminder that nature cannot be predicted,
cannot be thwarted or mastered or controlled,
and that every moment matters,
regardless of the view.

Daily Perk

Every day I check this blog,
and oh, it makes me happy.
Ticklish happy, silly happy,
itty bitty happy, a minor but useful,
pick-me-up kind of happy.
It's good stuff.

Can I Quote You on That?

I am a collector of quotes,
a chronic cut-and-paster.
My desktop is full of stickies,
each of which carries with it
words that catch my attention
and hold it long enough for me
to nod or smile or, if I'm really lucky, laugh,
or begin to look at the world a little differently.

Here are few that currently reside on my desktop:
"Words and pictures make the best souvenirs for any adventure. Just press a flower into a notebook and call it a day."

"We must be conscious of our message and the way we deliver it. You are responsible for how your words land in someone else’s ear."

"When I sign autographs, I often write – Stay Fresh. This is a reminder to not grow numb to the beauty in your own community....In every town around the world, Love happens simultaneously. You don’t have to be on holiday to send someone a postcard. Where you are is a wonderful tourist destination."

-- Jason Mraz

""I almost never read a borrowed book. I don't like to read borrowed books because I don't want to read a book without underlining things I want to remember. Since one doesn't underline someone else's book, I feel that if a book is worth reading, it is worth owning."

-- Boyd K. Packer

"I believe we have to create that person...just like 'creating' art.

Layer upon layer, we add things we like, get rid of the things that don't work for us...stay true to our own our personality and our life. We choose."

-- Kimberly Brimhall

"As long as I'm your President, I'll never stop fighting to make sure that the most powerful voice in Washington belongs to you."

-- Barack Obama

"Art is not what you see, but what you make others see."

-- Edgar Degas

"I don’t think anyone can teach you how to write a good song. I think they can teach you to write in a genre or how to write something cliché. You can teach someone how to craft something pop but you can’t teach someone how to be an artist."

-- Harper Simon

"My life on the road is a lot like '70s Fleetwood Mac, except instead of cocaine it's Cinnamon Toast Crunch."

"Sometimes you have to throw in the towel and call that 're-occurring flaw' a character trait. Someone will love it."

"And that's what adulthood is: you wake from the nightmare and realize there's no bigger bed to climb into."

-- John Mayer

"Tell it to me backwards."

-- from an episode of Lie to Me

The Loves of My Life

Happy Valentine's Day!
I created this layout for today's Collage Press post,
in which I pretty much unloaded all of the Valentine's Day schmaltz
that was building up in this here heart of mine,
and frankly, I'm spent,
so you'll have to stop by the CP blog
if you're in the mood for my love-ly ramblings. :)
I'm off to go enjoy the day with my valentines.
Have a great one!

Please Wait to Be Seated.

In the midst of what is already turning out to be
one of the busiest weeks ever in all of everness,
it feels so good to just SIT for a few moments
and share a little love --
Lily Bee love, that is:

I cannot get enough of the papers from the "Lovely" collection.
Swoonworthy for sure.

It felt so good to finish this page,
even though it took me two days of "stolen" moments
here and there.
Worth it. :)

I can't wait for things to slow down a bit
so that I can get scrappalappin again.
That sounds hokey, I know,
but I am SO feeling it.

My "TO DO" list keeps interfering
with my "WANT TO DO" list.

There should be limited seating on my "TO DO" list.
Tasks should have to call for reservations,
and I should be able to bump those tasks
to make room for preferred ones.

Things like
"pay the bills with money you may not actually have"
"drive to X from Y and then from Y to P, stopping at Q on the way home"
"try to get at least five full hours of sleep"
wouldn't make the list,

because things like
"kiss on your smackerific husband"
"laugh like a loon with your daughter"
"scrap until you run out of paper (as if)"
would have priority.

Still, as my layout professes,
and as much of a grumpalump
as I can be sometimes,
I'm grateful. I'm lucky. I'm blessed.

Ain't No Party Like My Nana's Tea Party

Happy 90th birthday, Nana!
We are so very, very blessed to have you in our lives.
