Everyday Storyteller Blog Hop

Welcome to the Everyday Storyteller 2 blog hop!
(I know my post says it's the 29th, but since I live in Hawaii, I'm a few time zones behind those for whom it is already the 30th.)

I'm excited to be a contributor to this wonderful compilation. My special focus was on achieving a sense of unity on a layout, establishing a relationship among all of the elements. I consider the role that journaling plays in this process, and provide some helpful tips for how to reinforce a page's theme through journaling.

Here's more information about the book and today's giveaway:

Just Don't.

I used to worry that not having little ones around would eventually led to a scrappy drought, brought on by a shortage of cuteness in my life. After considering birthing a few more mini-me's for the sake of filling my scrapbook albums, I ultimately decided against it.  Cuteness is overrated -- who needs it, when you've got a cranky teenager around?
Okay, maybe I'm just kidding. Sort of. My teenager can be cranky from time to time, but she is also a good sport. She even helped me generate some of the items on the list featured in this layout that I created for the October Afternoon blog.
I was so happy to have a chance to work with some of the new products from the Daily Flash Snapshots and Travel Girl lines!  I also used a few of the new Catch-Phrase stamps.
The layout put a smile on my daughter's face, and that's all that matters.  Shove it, cuteness.

A Teensy Splurge

For the past few weeks I've been adding items to my cart here and there at Two Peas, holding off of actually making a purchase until the day that something big and bright and splurgeworthy would show up in the store...and today is that day!  There are a bunch of new items in the Two Peas store -- hooray!

Don't you just love these Freckled Fawn Clouds Wood Chips?
BasicGrey Hipster and Mint Julep have arrived, at long last!  I'm stoked.
Hipster Printed Chipboard Shapes
Hipster "Nifty" Patterned Paper

Mint Julep Fabric Tape
Mint Julep Printed Chipboard Alpha
Mint Julep "Charmaine" Patterned Paper
It's time to give my cart contents a new home!

He Whom I Love

There are lots of reasons why we fall in love and stay in love, and here is one:
He really is a keeper.

Even though I initially created this layout for an October Afternoon blog tutorial on repetition stamping, looking at this layout now, I am reminded of the importance of journaling on a layout. What if I had just created the background, added the photos and title, and wrote something along the lines of "Rob loves to juggle"? It just wouldn't be the same, and someday, someone looking back on this layout wouldn't realize why the sight of this guy juggling Easter eggs, as silly as it appears, makes me weak in the knees.

Journaling -- it matters!

Gardeners' Digest: April Garden Girl Blog Hop

Welcome to the Gardeners' Digest, a monthly update from the Garden Girls, the design team at Two Peas in a Bucket.  We'd love it if you'd "hop" by each of our blogs today to see what's in bloom in the Garden this month. If you've been following the hop so far, you were just visiting with Corrie Jones. If you'd like to go back to the beginning, it all starts on the Two Peas blog
I'm a lover of all things bright and colorful year 'round, but there is just something about springtime scrapping that makes me indulge in color even more than usual. The proof is in the layout that I created for my latest Scrap Your Stash video
I had a blast working with ribbon and patterned paper strips here. I especially loved working with the different ribbons from the new Allison Kreft collections here.  The real stars of the layout, however, are my mom and my aunt. Everything about this page is just so them. In the video, I explain how I selected the page accents with them in mind.
The Two Peas gallery is always such a terrific source of inspiration. Among the layouts that I have bookmarked recently are those by peas who have been using mixed media techniques.
"You Laugh So Much Together" (Nirupama01), "My Love" (Corej), "Today the Avenger" (Diana Waite), "@Cafe" (Jina-B)
Dear Lizzy Lucky Charm Glitter Spray Painted Chipboard Thickers.  Initially I just assumed that these were Thickers with glitter on them, but after seeing them up close, I realized why they have the word "Treasure" associated with them.  My goodness, these are pretty
Hero Arts Neon Dye Ink Pads. After letting go of it reluctantly in the 80s, I was a little slow to embrace neon when it re-emerged as a trend, but now, I am drawn to these colors for some reason.
Pink Paislee Hope Chest. The papers in this collection are, in a word, hoardworthy.
Gesso. This is such a versatile medium. I've used it for prepping a surface prior to painting, for creating texture with stencils and masks, for stamping, and more.
October Afternoon Label Stickers. These are my go-to label stickers. With their matte surfaces, they take equally well to handwritten or typed journaling. I go through these like water.

To thank you for stopping by today, I'd love to offer you a chance to win a $10 Two Peas in a Bucket gift certificate. Just leave a comment on this post (including your Two Peas username) before 6:00 p.m. Hawaii time on Sunday, April 28, and I will select one lucky winner.

Your next stop on the hop is the blog of Garden Girl Lexi Bridges.  Enjoy!

Ready to Pop

I'm excited to share some good news today...
I'm so happy to be a contributor to Jen Jockisch's upcoming class at Studio Calico, Pop off the Page 2.  I can't believe how lucky I am to be joining these talented folk!

Here’s the class description:
Feeling a little flat? Join layering expert Jen Jockisch for this sequel to last year’s popular class and learn how to layer your paper and embellishments to add detail, dimension and visual interest to any project. We’ll be kicking off the class with a refresher PDF to discuss ideas shared in the first class, and will follow that up with four PDFs discussing even more concepts in layering. In the end, you’ll have access to 5 PDFs filled with 28 new projects, 2 videos (one from Jen and one from Celine) and oodles of Pop Off The Page tips and tricks.
Jen is joined by a talented group of contributors – they have a diverse range of styles, but they all know how to rock the layers. Becky Novacek, Celine Navarro, Dawn McVey, Debee Campos, Emily Branch, Jill Sprott, Kim Stewart, Lilith Eeckels, Lisa Spangler, Marcy Penner, Patricia Roebuck, Sasha Farina, Shanna Noel, Stephanie Bryan and Stephanie Dagan will each be sharing a project and their own personal layering tips.
While supplies last, students will receive an embellishment kit of layering essentials, including an exclusive stamp set.

This kit will ship free to you, no matter where you are! [The description page at Studio Calico will be updated when the class kit is sold out.] The class also comes with exclusive downloads – printables from In A Creative Bubble and Blinks of Life and die cut files in .svg, .png and .studio from Kinsey Wilson.
In addition, you’ll have access to a private message board where you can ask Jen all of your layering questions! Here’s a look at the class syllabus :
May 1 : Layering refresher – layouts from Jen, Marcy, Becky, Lilith and Sasha
May 6 : Layering with mixed media – layouts from Jen, Jill, Celine and Shanna, card from Lisa
May 13 : Layering with paper techniques – layouts from Jen, Patricia, and Kim, card from Dawn, Project Life spread from Stephanie Bryan
May 20 : Layering in other projects – 3 tags from Jen, mini album from Stephanie Dagan, art piece from Debee Campos, 3 cards from Emily
May 27 : Jen’s layering tips and tricks – 4 layouts and 1 card from Jen

How about a little peek at the layout that I created for the class?
Mixed media plus layers?  You know I loved every minute of putting this together.

Registration for the class closes on April 30.

Thanks for stopping by today!

JBS Mercantile Mid-Month Reveal

Every month a box from JBS Mercantile arrives on my doorstep, and when I open it, I am always startled by the loveliness within. The April kits have stolen my heart -- and the evidence is in the mid-month gallery.

Papercrafting Kit + Mini-Album Kit  (alphas)
More details about each layout may be found in the gallery at JBS Mercantile.

I have even more kit goodies that I am looking forward to working with/playing with as the month goes on.  I can't get enough of these colors! I think my favorite paper from this month's kits is this "Polka Pop" paper from Heidi Swapp:
Isn't it so April?
